Jonathan Smith
BIOGRAPHY
British, b. 1978
Jonathan Smith was born in England in 1978. He received his B.A. with honors in Fine Art at the University for Creative Arts in Canterbury U.K. and a diploma in Documentary Practice and Visual Journalism at the International Center for Photography in New York City, where he now lives. He maintains a studio in Brooklyn. His work consists of large scale, highly nuanced color photographs depicting the ephemeral and transformative beauty of landscape.
Jonathan spent the early years of his career assisting and printing for world renowned photogra-pher Joel Meyerowitz. He has been the recipient of a number of awards, including The Hearst Bi-ennial Award, The Magenta Foundation Award, PDN Annual Awards, and the Photography Book Now Blurb award judged by Darius Himes, international head of photographs at Christies. He has been widely exhibited both in the United States and internationally. His work is included in collec-tions at the Museum of the City of New York and the Design Trust for Public Space in New York.
