Solana Beach, California – Madison Gallery presents Midsummer Nights Dream, internationally celebrated neo-expressionist artist Hunt Slonem’s sixth solo exhibition at Madison Gallery.  Considered one of the great colorists of his time, his paintings feature an exuberant and bold, fauvist palette to emphasize his beloved menagerie of animals. His spiritual practice provides the inspiration for his Warholesque repetitive compositions. Midsummer Nights Dream is a window into the imagination and vision of this exceptional artist and Renaissance man.

This witty Formalist strategy meshes the creatures into the picture plane and sometimes nearly obliterates them as images, but it also suspends and shrouds them in a dim, atmosphere light that is quite beautiful. “- Roberta Smith, The New York Times

Since 1977, Hunt Slonem has had more than 350 exhibitions at prestigious galleries and museums internationally. His work is exhibited globally, in cities including Madras, Quito, Venice, Gustavia, San Juan, Guatemala City, Paris, Amsterdam, Madrid, Stockholm, Oslo, Cologne, Tokyo, and Hong Kong. Slonem’s work is in over eighty museum collections worldwide, including The Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York City, and Kansas City’s own Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art.
