Dina Goldstein “Gods of Suburbia”

La Jolla, March 19th, 2016 – Madison Gallery presents Gods of Suburbia, a new collection of photographs by Dina Goldstein. The work is a visual analysis of religious faith within the context of the modern forces of technology, science and secularism. The series plays with narrative and religious iconography in order to communicate how organized belief has become twisted within the global framework driven by consumerism and greed. Goldstein creates a dialogue with the viewer and challenges him/her to embark on a journey of self-reflection as they contemplate the relevance of dogma in modernity.

Satire combined with social-political undertones play an integral part of Gods in Suburbia, while portraying the treatment of the most vulnerable individuals in society to homeless, unemployed and social alienated. Goldstein remains respectful to all gods and deities while utilizing satire within a contemporary narrative as she places them in vulnerable situations that question our humanity.

Vancouver based, internationally award-winning photographer, Pop Surrealist and cultural critic, Dina Goldstein’s work deals with the human condition. Past series includes In the Dollhouse and Fallen Princesses. Her work has been exhibited in Canada, France, India, Israel, Colombia and the 2012 Venice Biennale. She is the winner of the grand price Prix Virginia in 2014.
